Verelan and Breastfeeding

If you are taking Verelan and breastfeeding at the same time, it is important to know that the medication does pass through your breast milk. Because of the serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of Verelan advises that women who are breastfeeding avoid taking Verelan. However, many sources report that it is probably safe to take the medication while breastfeeding.

Verelan® (verapamil hydrochloride) does pass through breast milk. Because of the serious side effects that could potentially occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of Verelan does not recommend that women who are breastfeeding take Verelan.
