An Introduction to Valturna Side Effects
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with
Valturna® (
aliskiren and valsartan). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Valturna. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Common Side Effects of Valturna
Valturna has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials.
In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and are then compared to those that occur in another group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the placebo.
In these studies, the most common Valturna side effects included:
- High blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia) -- in up to 4 percent of people
- Fatigue -- up to 2.6 percent
- Common cold symptoms (such as sore throat or runny nose) -- up to 2.6 percent
- Diarrhea -- up to 1.4 percent
- Upper respiratory tract infection -- up to 1.4 percent
- Urinary tract infection (UTI), such as a bladder infection -- up to 1.4 percent
- The flu -- up to 1.1 percent
- A spinning sensation -- up to 1.1 percent.
