Side Effects of Torsemide

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with torsemide. However, not everyone who takes torsemide will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate torsemide well. When torsemide side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
 
The most common side effects of torsemide include:
 
  • Irritated or runny nose
  • Weakness
  • Diarrhea
  • Irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmia)
  • Coughing
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Joint pain
  • Indigestion.

Torsemide: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking torsemide if you have:
 
  • Liver disease, including cirrhosis
  • Kidney disease or kidney failure
  • Diabetes
  • Gout
  • Fluid or electrolyte problems
  • Any allergies, including allergies to sulfa drugs, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
     
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
 
Tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you are currently taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
