Toprol-XL 50 mg

A healthcare provider may prescribe
Toprol-XL® (metoprolol succinate) to treat high blood pressure, angina, or congestive heart failure. Your dosage will depend on several factors, such as your age, the condition being treated, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are taking.

The tablets come in a variety of strengths:

  • 25 mg Toprol-XL
  • 50 mg Toprol-XL
  • 100 mg Toprol-XL
  • 200 mg Toprol-XL.

Your dosage should be taken either with food or immediately following a meal. You should not crush or chew them, as they are extended-release tablets. However, the tablets may be cut in half (along the score line) without causing any problems. Take Toprol-XL at the same time each day. This will help to maintain an even level in the blood.

Do not stop taking Toprol-XL without first discussing it with your healthcare provider. Stopping the drug abruptly increases the risk for serious side effects.
