Toprol Pills

Toprol® (short for
Toprol-XL®) is a prescription medication used to treat various conditions that affect the heart or blood vessels, such as high blood pressure, angina, or congestive heart failure. It comes in the form of pills (tablets) and is available in the following strengths:

  • Toprol-XL 25 mg
  • Toprol-XL 50 mg
  • Toprol-XL 100 mg
  • Toprol-XL 200 mg.

As part of a class of drugs called beta blockers, Toprol decreases heart rate and blood pressure, as well as the workload of the heart. It also increases the efficiency of the heart, allowing more blood to be pumped out to the rest of the body. Although Toprol can help treat high blood pressure, angina, and congestive heart failure, it is not a cure for these conditions.

Even though most people tolerate Toprol pills well, the medication is not suitable for everyone. Before using this medication, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you have and any other medications you are taking (including vitamins, supplements, and nonprescription medications).
