Toprol Dangers

Although most people tolerate
 Toprol® (short for Toprol-XL®) well, it is not free of dangerous risks. Because this medication is not suitable for everyone, make sure you talk to your healthcare provider about possible dangers with Toprol that may apply to you.
 
For instance, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical condition you may have and any other medication you are taking (including nonprescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements) before starting treatment with Toprol. Dangers of this medication include potential side effects. Some of the most common Toprol side effects include:
 
  • Slow heart rate
  • Tiredness
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Itching or unexplained rash
  • Depression
  • Shortness of breath.
     
Other warnings apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies (including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives). Also, you may not be able to take Toprol if you have certain medical conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, or asthma.
