Toprol-XL® is prescription medication that may be used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also used to treat congestive heart failure (CHF) and symptoms associated with angina. By reversing the effects of beta-1 receptors in the body, the medicine is effective in decreasing heart rate, the workload of the heart, and both diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Toprol-XL, which is usually taken once a day, comes in a tablet form and is available in several different strengths.
