Toprol-XL® is a prescription medication that is licensed for the treatment of high blood pressure, angina symptoms, and congestive heart failure. Manufactured by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, the medicine works by reversing the effects of certain stress hormones in the body, which decreases heart rate, blood pressure levels, and the workload of the heart. Common side effects of Toprol-XL may include dizziness, slow heart rate, and diarrhea. Toprol comes in a tablet form and is available in four different strengths.
