Side Effects of Toprol-XL

Side Effects of Toprol-XL to Report

Some side effects with Toprol-XL, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Unexplained swelling and sudden weight gain (see Toprol and Weight Gain), or difficulty breathing, which may be signs of congestive heart failure
  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting spells
  • Confusion
  • An irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including unexplained rash, hives, itching, unexplained swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
     

Rare Toprol-XL Side Effects

Rare side effects occur in less than 1 percent of people taking Toprol-XL. Given how uncommon they are, however, it can be difficult to tell whether these possible side effects are actually caused by the medication, other factors, or a combination of these.
