Teveten

Teveten is a prescription medicine approved to help lower high blood pressure. It works by blocking a chemical in the body that causes the blood vessels to constrict. As a result, blood vessels relax and blood pressure lowers. Teveten comes in tablet form and is taken once or twice a day. Possible side effects include a sore throat, coughing, and a runny nose.

What Is Teveten?

Teveten^® (eprosartan mesylate) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (known medically as hypertension). It can be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure medicines.

How Does Teveten Work?

Teveten belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). Angiotensin II is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that causes blood vessels to narrow (constrict). By blocking angiotensin II, Teveten helps to relax the blood vessels, which results in lower blood pressure.

Clinical Effects

Clinical studies have shown that Teveten lowers

blood pressure in people with hypertension more than a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). In these studies, systolic blood pressure (the top number of a blood pressure reading) decreased by 5 to 10 mmHg more in people who were taking Teveten compared to those taking the placebo; diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) decreased by 3 to 6 mmHg more in the Teveten group.
