Who Makes This Medication?
Teveten is made by Solvay Pharmaceuticals for Abbott Laboratories.
Teveten belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). Angiotensin II is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that causes blood vessels to narrow (constrict). By blocking angiotensin II, Teveten helps to relax the blood vessels, which results in
lower blood pressure.
Clinical studies have shown that Teveten lowers
blood pressure in people with hypertension more than a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). In these studies,
systolic blood pressure (the top number of a
blood pressure reading) decreased by 5 to 10 mmHg more in people who were taking Teveten compared to those taking the placebo;
diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) decreased by 3 to 6 mmHg more in the Teveten group.
