Generic Teveten

Teveten (eprosartan) is now available in generic form. At this time, only the 600-mg tablets are available, and Mylan Pharmaceuticals is the only manufacturer. The generic medication has been given an "AB" rating, which means it is considered equivalent to the brand-name drug.

Can I Buy Generic Teveten?

Teveten® (eprosartan mesylate) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure, known medically as hypertension. It belongs to a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor blockers, or ARBs for short.
 
Brand-name Teveten is made by Solvay Pharmaceuticals for Abbott Laboratories. Teveten is available in generic form as well.
 

Availability of Generic Teveten

Generic Teveten is available in one strength: Eprosartan 600 mg tablets. A generic version of the 400-mg strength has also been approved, but for some reason is not yet commercially available.
 
At this time, generic Teveten is made by Mylan Pharmaceuticals. In the near future, it is likely that several more manufacturers will make generic versions as well.
 

Is Generic Eprosartan as Good as Teveten?

All generic medications must undergo certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications.
 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generics are equivalent to the brand-name medications and assigns a rating to each one.
 
An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name medication. The generic versions of eprosartan currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Teveten.
 
However, generic medications are allowed to have different inactive ingredients than the brand-name medication. This might include fillers, dyes, or other ingredients that may cause problems for people with allergies or sensitivities.
