Tekturna Side Effects

Although most people do not experience problems while taking Tekturna, side effects can occur. Common side effects include diarrhea, coughing, and a rash. These side effects are generally minor and easily treated. However, more serious side effects of Tekturna are also possible. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience seizures; fainting; or swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue, or throat.

An Introduction to Tekturna Side Effects

As with any medicine, Tekturna^® (aliskiren hemifumarate) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects With Tekturna

Tekturna has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials.

In these studies, one group of people received the real medication, while another group was given a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). From these studies, it is possible to see what Tekturna side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group who took the placebo.

In general, side effects were relatively uncommon. Only a few side effects could be classified as "common," meaning they occurred in at least 1 percent of people taking the drug during the clinical trials. These common side effects included:

Diarrhea -- in up to 2.3 percent of people
Coughing -- up to 1.1 percent (see Tekturna and Cough)
A rash -- up to 1 percent.
