Tekturna and Breastfeeding: An Overview
At this time, it is unknown if
Tekturna® (
aliskiren hemifumarate) passes through breast milk. The manufacturer recommends that women avoid this drug while breastfeeding. If you are breastfeeding or are thinking about breastfeeding, talk with your healthcare provider before taking Tekturna.
Tekturna and Breastfeeding: What Does the Research Say?
No studies have been done to see if Tekturna passes through breast milk in women. However, it has been shown to pass through breast milk in rats, which is a good indication that it probably does so in humans as well. Because Tekturna has not been adequately studied in any infants or children, it is not known if the drug could have any negative effects on an infant (or on a mother's milk supply) if it does pass through breast milk.
