Tarka Drug Interactions

Tarka Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Tarka is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Anesthetics
If you will be receiving anesthesia (such as for surgery) make sure your anesthesiologist knows that you are taking Tarka, as this may influence the choice and dosage of anesthetics.

Beta Blockers
If you are taking Tarka and a beta blocker, your blood pressure or heart rate may decrease too much. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely.

Carbamazepine
Tarka may increase the level of carbamazepine in the blood, possibly increasing the risk of carbamazepine side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Certain Arrhythmia Medications
If you are taking Tarka with certain arrhythmia medications, your blood pressure or heart rate may decrease too much. Irregular heart rhythms may occur. Check with your healthcare provider before combining Tarka with an arrhythmia medication.

Certain Statin Medications
Tarka may increase the level of some statins in the blood, increasing the risk of muscle problems or other statin side effects. When combined with Tarka, the maximum daily dosage of simvastatin is 10 mg, and the maximum daily dosage of lovastatin is 40 mg. Lower-than-normal dosages of atorvastatin may be recommended as well.

Clarithromycin
There have been reports of low blood pressure, slow heart rate, and lactic acidosis (a dangerous condition) when Tarka was combined with clarithromycin. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
