More Detail About Quinaretic Interactions
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when
Quinaretic is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Alcohol
When taking Quinaretic with alcohol, your
blood pressure may decrease too much. For your particular situation, make sure to talk with your healthcare provider about drinking alcohol while taking Quinaretic.
Barbiturates
When taking Quinaretic with a barbiturate, your blood pressure may decrease too much. In order to decrease the chances of this Quinaretic interaction, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of Quinaretic, and/or monitor you more closely.
Bile Acid Sequestrants
Bile acid sequestrants can bind to Quinaretic in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. To avoid this drug interaction, Quinaretic should be taken at least one hour before or four to six hours after a bile acid sequestrant has been given.
Corticosteroids
Taking corticosteroids with Quinaretic may cause an electrolyte imbalance, especially with the levels of potassium in the blood. If you are taking a corticosteroid with Quinaretic, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of medicine as needed.
Diabetes Medications
Taking a
diabetes medication with Quinaretic may increase blood sugar levels. For your particular situation, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of
diabetes medications as needed.
Diuretics
When taking Quinaretic with a diuretic, your blood pressure may decrease too much. This is more likely to occur when Quinaretic is first started. In order to decrease the chances of this interaction, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of Quinaretic, and/or monitor you more closely.
