Perindopril Uses

Regular perindopril uses can help control high blood pressure and ultimately reduce the risks that accompany long-term hypertension. The medicine, which is a type of ACE inhibitor, works by blocking the angiotensin-converting enzyme. This causes blood vessels to relax and lowers blood pressure. Perindopril uses have only been approved for adults, and there are no currently accepted off-label uses.

 

Perindopril Uses: An Overview

Perindopril (Aceon®) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to control high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. However, it is not cure for high blood pressure.
 
Perindopril is part of a class of drugs called ACE inhibitors. ACE stands for angiotensin-converting enzyme. Perindopril helps to block the angiotensin-converting enzyme, which is normally part of a reaction in the body that causes blood vessels to narrow (constrict). By blocking this enzyme, perindopril causes blood vessels to relax, which can lower blood pressure.
 
Because perindopril lowers blood pressure, it can reduce the risks that accompany long-term high blood pressure (see Effects of High Blood Pressure).
 

Perindopril Uses in Children

Perindopril has not been approved for use in children.
 

Off-Label Perindopril Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend perindopril for treating a condition other than those listed above.
 This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no universally accepted off-label perindopril uses.
