What Is Norvasc?

Norvasc® (
amlodipine besylate) is a drug commonly used for the treatment of high blood pressure, certain types of chest pain, and certain types of coronary artery disease. In some situations, Norvasc is also used for the treatment of other medical conditions, such as cluster headaches, migraines, Raynaud's syndrome, and congestive heart failure (these are off-label uses).

Norvasc, which is part of a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers, helps slow down the rate of calcium movement into your heart and blood vessel walls. This, in turn, helps to relax the vessels, which allows better blood flow and causes lower blood pressure.
