Norvasc and Grapefruit

Grapefruit has been known to interact with several
calcium channel blockers. However, interactions between Norvasc and grapefruit products (such as grapefruit, grapefruit juice, or grapefruit supplements) do not appear to occur. Therefore, most people taking Norvasc do not need to avoid grapefruit products.

Several studies have looked at the interaction between Norvasc and grapefruit. For people eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice once a day, these studies have shown either no increase in Norvasc levels within the body or increases so small that it did not impact blood pressure or heart rate.

Researchers still caution that it is possible, with higher levels of grapefruit consumption or in certain individuals, that the effects on Norvasc levels could be more pronounced. Therefore, if you take Norvasc and grapefruit products are part of your diet, talk to your doctor. He or she is in the best position to give you recommendations for your particular situation.
