Nifedipine Uses in Children

Nifedipine has been not been adequately studied in children and is not approved for use in this age group. Be sure to talk to your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using the drug in children.
 

Off-Label Nifedipine Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend nifedipine for treating something other than the conditions listed above. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, off-label uses of nifedipine include treatment for the following conditions:
 
  • Preterm labor
  • Hiccups
  • Migraine headaches
  • Diabetic nephropathy (kidney problems in people with diabetes)
  • Anal fissures (nifedipine in a cream or ointment form).
