Research on Maxzide and breastfeeding has shown that the medication passes through breast milk. However, the specific effects this may have on a nursing infant are not known. Maxzide® (triamterene-HCTZ) is passed through breast milk. Because of the potentially serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer does not recommend that the drug be used in breastfeeding women. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding, make sure to let your healthcare provider know.

Research studies have shown that Maxzide is passed through breast milk. However, it is not fully known what the effects might be on a breastfeeding child.
