Blood Pressure Home > Visken Side Effects

Muscle pain, dizziness, and fatigue are the most common problems that have been reported with Visken. Problems that have been reported in less than 2 percent of people taking the medication include diarrhea, vomiting, and weight gain. Some side effects of Visken are potentially serious and require immediate medical attention, such as lightheadedness or fainting, irregular heart rate, and chest pain.

An Introduction to Visken Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Visken® (pindolol). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Visken. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Visken side effects with you.)

Common Side Effects of Visken

Visken has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and are then compared to side effects that occur in another group of people not taking the medicine. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
In these studies, the most common side effects with Visken (that occurred more frequently with Visken than with the placebo) included:
  • Muscle pain -- in up to 10 percent people
  • Dizziness -- up to 9 percent
  • Fatigue -- up to 8 percent
  • Nervousness -- up to 7 percent
  • Joint pain -- up to 7 percent
  • Water retention -- up to 6 percent.
Other common side effects (occurring in 2 to 5 percent of people) included:
  • Weakness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea.
