Most people tolerate Verelan without any problems. However, side effects are possible. The most common Verelan side effects include constipation, headaches, and dizziness. In most cases, you or your healthcare provider can easily treat the side effects. However, there are also more serious side effects with Verelan that may require immediate medical care, such as severe swelling, chest pain, and hallucinations.
Verelan Side Effects: An IntroductionAs with any medicine, there are possible side effects with Verelan® (verapamil hydrochloride). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. When side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Verelan Side EffectsVerelan has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented and then compared to the side effects of another group not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
In these studies, the most common Verelan side effects included:
- Constipation -- in up to 7.4 percent of people
- Headaches -- up to 5.3 percent
- Dizziness -- up to 4.2 percent
- Lethargy -- up to 3.2 percent
- Indigestion -- up to 2.5 percent
- Rashes -- up to 1.4 percent
- Swollen ankles -- up to 1.4 percent
- Sleeping problems -- up to 1.4 percent
- Muscle pain -- up to 1.1 percent.
