According to the manufacturer's recommendations for Teveten (eprosartan), breastfeeding women should not take this drug. It is not known if this medication passes through breast milk or if it would cause harm to a breastfed infant. If you are nursing, talk to your healthcare provider about the potential risks of Teveten.
Is Teveten Safe to Take While Breastfeeding?
Teveten® (eprosartan mesylate) is a prescription medication used to control blood pressure. At this time, it is unknown if Teveten passes through breast milk. The manufacturer recommends that women not take the drug while breastfeeding. Therefore, if you are nursing a child, talk with your healthcare provider before taking Teveten.
More Information on Breastfeeding and Teveten
No research has been done to see if Teveten passes through breast milk. Although this lack of information is certainly frustrating, it is important to understand that studies of medications are rarely done in breastfeeding women, as this would usually expose an infant, who may not directly benefit from the medication, to possible risks.
Talking With Your Healthcare Provider
You should discuss breastfeeding and Teveten use with your healthcare provider. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
