Blood Pressure Home > Norvasc 5 mg
Norvasc® (amlodipine besylate) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure, specific types of angina, and heart disease. Several different strengths are available, including:
- Norvasc 2.5 mg
- Norvasc 5 mg
- Norvasc 10 mg.
Norvasc 5 mg is the recommended starting dosage for people who are using the drug to treat high blood pressure. This dose should be taken once a day, in the morning. If your blood pressure goal is not reached within two weeks, or if you develop Norvasc side effects, your healthcare provider may choose to increase or decrease your dosage.
For those taking the medication for chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina, or coronary artery disease, the recommended starting dosage is also Norvasc 5 mg; however, some people may benefit more from Norvasc 10 mg.
Children ages 6 to 17 who are being treated for high blood pressure should start with a dose between 2.5 mg and 5 mg, taken once daily. However, they should never be given doses more than Norvasc 5 mg.
