Blood Pressure Home > Exforge HCT Side Effects
During clinical studies, some of the most common side effects reported with Exforge HCT included dizziness, headaches, and fatigue. While most side effects of this drug are mild, some are potentially serious and require immediate medical attention, including chest pain, rapid weight gain, or fainting.
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Exforge HCT® (amlodipine-valsartan-hydrochlorothiazide). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Exforge HCT. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Exforge HCT side effects with you.)
Exforge HCT has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to side effects seen in another group taking other blood pressure drugs. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group taking other blood pressure medicines.
In these studies, the most common Exforge HCT side effects included:
- Dizziness -- in up to 8.2 percent of people
- Swelling or water retention of the hands, ankles, lower legs, or feet -- up to 6.5 percent
- Headache -- up to 5.2 percent
- Indigestion or heartburn -- up to 2.2 percent
- Fatigue -- up to 2.2 percent
- Muscle spasms -- up to 2.2 percent.
Other common side effects (all occurring in 2.1 percent of people) included:
