Blood Pressure Home > Capoten Dosage
For those who are beginning high blood pressure treatment with Capoten, dosage recommendations typically start at 25 mg two or three times a day. For the relief of congestive heart failure or diabetic nephropathy, the suggested dosage is 25 mg three times a day. Factors that affect your specific Capoten dosage include your age, other medical conditions, and if you are taking other medications.
The dose of Capoten® (captopril) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- The medical condition you are being treated for
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you are currently taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your Capoten dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
The recommended starting dosage of Capoten for most people with high blood pressure (hypertension) is 25 mg two times a day or 25 mg three times a day. Based on the blood pressure response and/or Capoten side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. With each change in Capoten dosage, it may take several weeks to see the full effects on lowering blood pressure.
