Your healthcare provider will consider several factors when determining your Calan dosage, such as the medical condition being treated, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you may be taking. When used to treat high blood pressure or angina, Calan dosing usually begins at 80 mg, three times a day. In the case of arrhythmias, the recommended Calan dose typically starts at 240 mg total per day, divided into three or four smaller doses.

- The medical condition being treated
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may currently be taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your Calan dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
The recommended starting Calan dose for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) is Calan 80 mg three times per day. Your healthcare provider may increase your dose if necessary or decrease your dose if you experience bothersome Calan side effects.
A lower starting dose (Calan 40 mg three times daily) may be recommended for certain people, such as smaller people, elderly people, or those who have liver problems.
Typical Calan doses for treating chest pain (angina) range from Calan 80 mg to 120 mg three times daily. However, a lower dose (Calan 40 mg three times daily) may be recommended for people who have liver problems, smaller people, or elderly people.
