Blood Pressure Home > High Blood Pressure Treatments

If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension), your treatment will likely begin with lifestyle changes, such as:

  • Losing weight if you are overweight (losing even 10 pounds can help)
  • Increasing physical activity, such as walking 30 minutes a day
  • Following a healthy eating plan that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products.
  •
If lifestyle changes alone are not enough to bring your blood pressure to a normal level, treatment may include beta blockers, diuretics, or other medications.
