Blood Pressure Home > Doxazosin Mesylate

Doxazosin mesylate (Cardura®) is a prescription medicine that is approved for controlling high blood pressure and for treating an enlarged prostate. It is part of a class of medicines called alpha blockers. Doxazosin relaxes the muscles of the prostate and bladder and also relaxes blood vessels throughout the body. This allows them to open wider so that blood can flow more easily.
This medication is taken daily and is sold in the form of a tablet. It is available in four strengths. The particular dosage your healthcare provider recommends will depend on several factors, such as:
  • Your age
  • The medical condition being treated
  • Other medical conditions you may have.
