Blood Pressure Home > Benicar HCT Drug Info

Adults who have high blood pressure, known medically as hypertension, may be prescribed Benicar HCT® (olmesartan medoxomil hydrochlorothiazide). This medication cannot cure high blood pressure, but it can help reduce the risk for complications associated with the condition. In clinical trials, people taking Benicar HCT 40 mg/25 mg had a decrease in systolic blood pressure of 24 mmHg (millimeters of mercury), on average, and a decrease in diastolic blood pressure of 14 mmHg, on average.

Prior to beginning treatment with Benicar HCT, review the drug's safety info with your healthcare provider. This product can react with other medications, so your healthcare provider needs a complete list of all other medicines you are taking. He or she also needs to know about any other medical conditions you have, such as lupus, diabetes, gout, or asthma.
