Although most people tolerate Atacand HCT well, there are some potential side effects of this drug. Common side effects include cold or flu symptoms, dizziness, and low potassium levels in the blood. If you experience more severe Atacand HCT side effects, such as an unexplained skin rash or difficulty breathing, you should immediately consult your healthcare provider. Some of the rarer side effects of Atacand HCT can include vomiting, diarrhea, and insomnia.

An Overview of Atacand HCT Side Effects

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects associated with Atacand HCT® (candesartan cilexetil-hydrochlorothiazide). However, not everyone who takes Atacand HCT will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate Atacand HCT well. When side effects do occur, in many cases they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or a healthcare provider. Serious side effects can occur, but are less common.

Common Atacand HCT Side Effects

Worldwide, thousands of people taking Atacand HCT have been evaluated in extensive clinical trials. In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common Atacand HCT side effects include:
 
  • An upper respiratory infection, such as the common cold or flu -- occurring in up to 3.6 percent of people
  • Back pain -- in up to 3.3 percent
  • Dizziness -- in up to 2.9 percent
  • Low potassium levels in the blood -- in up to 2.5 percent.
