Based on clinical studies of Adalat CC, side effects of the drug most commonly included things such as swelling, headaches, and hot flashes. In most cases, side effects of Adalat CC are minor and can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Some of the more serious side effects, however, may require immediate medical attention. Among these serious side effects are chest pain, an irregular heart rhythm, and depression.
Adalat Side Effects: An IntroductionAs with any medicine, there are possible side effects with Adalat CC® (nifedipine). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. When side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Adalat CC. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Adalat CC side effects with you.)
Common Adalat Side EffectsAdalat CC has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
In these studies, the most common Adalat CC side effects included:
- Swelling or water retention in the hands, legs, or feet -- in up to 29 percent of people
- Headaches -- up to 19 percent
- Flushing or hot flashes -- up to 4 percent
- Dizziness -- up to 4 percent.
Other common side effects (occurring in 1 to 3 percent of people) included:
- Vertigo (a spinning sensation)
- A bloody nose
- An irritated or runny nose
- Frequent urination
- Leg cramps or leg pain
- Impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction or ED (see Adalat and Impotence).
