Lotensin HCT Uses

Lotensin HCT is used to lower high blood pressure in adults by allowing the blood vessels to relax and reducing the volume of the blood. Lotensin HCT is not a cure for high blood pressure, but it can lower the risks associated with long-term high blood pressure, such as a heart attack, stroke, or congestive heart failure. Lotensin HCT has not been approved for use in children and, at this time, there are no universally accepted off-label Lotensin HCT uses.

Uses for Lotensin HCT: An Overview

Lotensin HCT® (benazepril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to control high blood pressure (hypertension).

Lotensin HCT for High Blood Pressure
A blood pressure reading consists of two numbers -- for example: 120/80. The top number is known as the systolic blood pressure and the bottom number is the diastolic blood pressure. High blood pressure is defined as an average blood pressure higher than 140/90, with multiple blood pressure readings.

Based on clinical studies, Lotensin HCT has been shown to significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The higher the dose of Lotensin HCT, the greater the drop in blood pressure tended to be. By lowering blood pressure, Lotensin HCT can decrease the risk of developing health problems (such as a stroke, heart disease, or congestive heart failure) that can occur with long-term high blood pressure (see Effects of High Blood Pressure). However, Lotensin HCT is not a cure for high blood pressure.
