Inderal Uses

Migraines
Migraine headaches usually begin between the ages of 5 and 35, and are characterized by severe pain felt on one or both sides of the head. The pain of migraine headaches is often described as an intense pulsing or throbbing in one area of the head.

Inderal is often used for the prevention of migraines. In clinical studies, it has been shown to decrease the occurrence and severity of migraines.

Essential Tremors
An essential tremor is a rhythmic, involuntary muscular contraction characterized by oscillations (to-and-fro movements) of a part of the body. It can affect many parts of the body, but occurs most commonly in the upper part of the body.

For those people with familial or essential tremors, Inderal has been shown to decrease the severity of the tremor but not the tremor frequency.

Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis
Hypertrophic subaortic stenosis is a condition in which the middle part of the heart that separates the right and left ventricles becomes thickened. This causes less blood to be pumped out of the heart when the heart beats. Common symptoms include:

  • Angina (chest pain)
  • Shortness of breath with exercise
  • Heart palpitations
  • Fainting
  • Difficulty breathing while lying down.

Inderal has been shown to improve symptoms associated with hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Inderal does not, however, cure this condition.

Pheochromocytoma
A pheochromocytoma is a tumor that normally occurs within special cells of the adrenal gland called chromaffin cells. This type of tumor produces an excessive quantity of the hormones called catecholamines, which include adrenaline. The high levels of these hormones can cause potential serious complications, including severe high blood pressure.

Inderal has been shown to control blood pressure and decrease symptoms in people with pheochromocytoma.
