Hydrochlorothiazide Strengths

People with
 high blood pressure or water retention may benefit from the prescription drug hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ). The medication has been shown to significantly reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and can also treat water retention caused by congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, kidney failure, and certain medications.
 
There are currently several different forms and strengths available for hydrochlorothiazide. Strengths include:
 
  • 12.5 mg capsules
  • 25 mg tablets
  • 50 mg tablets.
     
Hydrochlorothiazide is sold under a number of brand names, including Esidrix®, HydroDIURIL®, Microzide®, and Oretic®. Currently, there are both brand-name and generic versions of hydrochlorothiazide licensed for sale (in the strengths mentioned above).
