Exforge Drug Interactions

When nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, ACE inhibitors, or potassium-containing products are taken together with Exforge, drug interactions may occur. These interactions can decrease the effectiveness of the medications and increase your risk of side effects, including high potassium levels, low blood pressure, and kidney problems. To minimize your risk of developing Exforge interactions, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking.

 

An Overview of Exforge Drug Interactions

 Exforge® (amlodipine and valsartan) can potentially interact with a few other medications. Some of these medicines that may lead to Exforge interactions include:
 
  • ACE inhibitors, such as:
o Eprosartan (Teveten®)
  • Digoxin (Digitek®, Lanoxin®)
  • Eplerenone (Inspra®)
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as:
o Diclofenac (Cataflam®, Voltaren®)
o Ibuprofen (Motrin®, Advil®)
o Indomethacin (Indocin®, Indocin SR®)
  • Potassium-containing products, such as:
o Potassium chloride (K-Dur®, Klor-Con®, Micro-K®)
o Potassium citrate (Urocit-K®, Polycitra-K®)
o Potassium gluconate
o Potassium phosphate (Neutra-Phos-K®, K-Phos®)
o Salt substitutes (used to flavor food)
