Exforge and Impotence

There are many potential side effects of Exforge, and impotence appears to be a rare but possible side effect. Clinical studies show that less than 2 percent of men have reported impotence while taking Exforge. If you are taking Exforge and impotence occurs, your healthcare provider may recommend an erectile dysfunction medicine, adjust your drug dosage, or prescribe another high blood pressure medication.

 

Exforge and Impotence: An Overview

Exforge® (amlodipine and valsartan), as with many high blood pressure medications, may rarely cause impotence. In clinical studies, less than 2 percent of men taking Exforge reported problems with impotence.
 

What Is Impotence?

Impotence is usually defined as a total inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. Ultimately, impotence is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Impotence is also known as erectile dysfunction (or ED for short).
 

Exforge and Impotence: A Summary

It is impossible for your healthcare provider to know whether you will develop impotence while taking Exforge.
 It may also be difficult to know whether impotence is caused by the medication itself or high blood pressure (as impotence is common in men with high blood pressure).
 
If you are taking Exforge and impotence becomes a problem, make sure to talk with your healthcare provider. There is treatment that he or she may be able to recommend. Depending on how severe your symptoms are, he or she may also recommend that you take an erectile dysfunction medicine, adjust your Exforge dosage, or try another blood pressure medicine.
