An Introduction to Your Dosage of Eprosartan/HCTZ
The dose of
eprosartan/HCTZ (
Teveten® HCT) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your blood pressure
- How you respond to the medication
- Other medications you are taking
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Eprosartan/HCTZ Dosing for High Blood Pressure
Eprosartan/
HCTZ is a combination of two
blood pressure medications: eprosartan and
hydrochlorothiazide (commonly referred to as HCTZ). If you have already been taking these medications separately, and your blood pressure is controlled, you will likely be started on a similar dose of eprosartan/HCTZ.
If your blood pressure is not adequately controlled on one of the medications in eprosartan/HCTZ, your starting eprosartan/HCTZ dosage will be individualized based on your current amounts of HCTZ or eprosartan, your blood pressure, and whether you have been experiencing side effects from your current medication. Your healthcare provider may then increase your dose, as needed, to control your blood pressure. The HCTZ dose should not be increased more often than every two to three weeks.
A typical dosage of eprosartan/HCTZ is one 600 mg/12.5 mg tablet taken once daily. If needed, the amount may be increased up to one 600 mg/25 mg tablet once daily.
