Is Edarbi Safe to Take While Breastfeeding?
Edarbi™ (
azilsartan medoxomil) is a prescription medication used to control
blood pressure. At this time, it is unknown if Edarbi passes through breast milk. The manufacturer recommends that women not take the drug while breastfeeding. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding a child, talk with your healthcare provider before taking Edarbi.
More Information on Breastfeeding and Edarbi
No research has been done to see if Edarbi passes through breast milk in humans, although some studies suggest that the drug passes through breast milk in rats. While this lack of information is certainly frustrating, it is important to understand that studies of medications are rarely done in breastfeeding women, as this would usually expose an infant, who may not directly benefit from the medication, to possible risks.
Talking With Your Healthcare Provider
You should discuss breastfeeding and
Edarbi use with your healthcare provider. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
