Diovan Risks

Although many people do not experience any problems while taking Diovan® (valsartan), this medication is not free of risks. Some of the most common risks with Diovan include:
  • Dizziness
  • An increase in blood potassium levels
  • Infection with a virus, such as the common cold or flu
  • Coughing
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal (stomach) pain.
If any problems do occur, they tend to be minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. However, there are some potentially serious problems that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience serious symptoms such as difficulty breathing, fainting spells, or an unexplained rash.
Other Diovan warnings and precautions apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies (including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives). Also, you may not be able to take Diovan if you have certain medical conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, or gallbladder problems.
