Diovan® (
valsartan) is a prescription medication used to treat various conditions that affect the heart or blood vessels. If you have
high blood pressure, for example, the recommended starting dosage of Diovan for most adults is either 160 mg or 80 mg of Diovan taken once a day. However, your dosage will depend on several factors, such as your weight (for children), the condition being treated, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are taking.
Based on the
blood pressure response and/or
Diovan side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. With each change in dosage, it may take several weeks to see Diovan's full effect on
lowering blood pressure. Most people require a final dose of 80 mg to 320 mg, either as one daily dose or two smaller doses.
Your Diovan dosage should be taken by mouth with a glass of water and can be taken with or without food. Make sure to take Diovan at the same time each day to maintain even levels of the medicine in your blood. If you are unsure about anything related to your Diovan dosage, talk to your pharmacist or healthcare provider.
