While most people taking Diovan HCT® (valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide) tolerate the medication well, there can be potential side effects. Among the drug's common side effects are the common cold and low potassium levels in the blood. There are several Diovan HCT side effects that you should report immediately to your healthcare provider, including unexplained blisters or peeling of the skin, unexplained swelling of the head or neck, and a decrease in the amount of urine produced. There are also some rare side effects that occur in 1 percent of people taking Diovan HCT. These rare Diovan HCT side effects can include a spinning sensation (vertigo), extremely low blood pressure, and increased heart rate. Be sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any Diovan HCT side effects, as well as anything that "just does not seem right."
