Diovan HCT Drug Interactions

A few of the drugs that Diovan HCT can potentially interact with include potassium-sparing diuretics, barbiturates, and potassium supplements or salt substitutes with potassium. These drug interactions can change the way your body metabolizes the drugs, cause your blood pressure to decrease too much, among other things. Before starting treatment, talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any interactions that may apply to you.

An Overview of Interactions With Diovan HCT

 Diovan HCT® (valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these Diovan HCT interactions can include:
 
  • Alcohol
  • Barbiturates, such as:

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butabarbital (Butisol Sodium®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Primidone (Mysoline®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Thiopental (Pentothal®)
 
 
  
 
  • Potassium supplements or salt substitutes with potassium.
