Diovan HCT Drug Interactions

Bile Acid Sequestrants
Bile acid sequestrants can bind to Diovan HCT in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. Diovan HCT should be taken at least one hour before (or four hours after) the bile acid sequestrant is taken to avoid this drug interaction.
Combining Diovan HCT with carbamazepine may increase the risk of seriously low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia). If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider should monitor your blood sodium levels.
Taking corticosteroids with Diovan HCT may cause an electrolyte imbalance, especially with the levels of potassium in the blood. If you are taking a corticosteroid with Diovan HCT, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of either medicine as needed.
Diabetes Medications
Diovan HCT may interact with diabetes medications, possibly increasing the chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dosage of diabetes medications as needed.
Lithium (Eskalith, Lithane, Lithonate, Lithotabs)
Diovan HCT may increase the lithium levels in your blood. For this reason, it is generally not recommended that the medications be combined. However, they can be taken together in certain situations, especially if your lithium levels are carefully monitored.
