Corgard Dosage: An Introduction
The dose of
Corgard® (
nadolol) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
- The medical condition being treated (and the severity of that condition)
- How you respond to the medication
- Other medications you are taking
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
For most people, the starting Corgard dosage for
high blood pressure treatment is 40 mg once daily. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase your dose up to a maximum of 320 mg once daily. For treating
angina (chest pain), the starting dosage is usually 40 mg once daily, and the maximum dosage is 240 mg once daily. Lower dosages may be recommended for people with kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure).
As with all
beta blockers, you should not abruptly stop taking Corgard, as serious problems (including
heart attacks) may result. Your healthcare provider will advise you about how to safely stop taking this medication. It is usually recommended to slowly reduce the dose over a period of time, with careful monitoring, and to minimize physical activity during this time. Let your healthcare provider know if you develop chest pain or any other problems while stopping Corgard.
