What Is Coreg Used For?

Coreg® (carvedilol) is approved to treat various conditions that affect the heart or blood vessels. Specifically, Coreg is used for:

Clinical studies have shown that this medicine can significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The higher the Coreg dosage, the greater the drop in blood pressure tended to be. By lowering blood pressure, the drug can decrease the risks that accompany long-term hypertension. However, it is not a cure for high blood pressure.

This medication decreases blood pressure and makes the heart more efficient, which allows more blood to be pumped from the heart. When Coreg is used for people who develop heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction following a heart attack, it decreases the chance of death by 23 percent and decreases the risk of another heart attack by 40 percent.
