The recommended dosage for Coreg when beginning treatment for high blood pressure or when following a heart attack is 6.25 mg, twice a day. For the treatment of congestive heart failure, the suggested dose is 3.125 mg, twice a day. Depending on your reaction to Coreg, your healthcare provider may increase or decrease your dosage accordingly.
The dose of Coreg® (carvedilol) your healthcare provider prescribes will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- The medical condition being treated
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you are currently taking
- How you respond to Coreg.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
The recommended starting dosage of Coreg for people with high blood pressure (hypertension) is 6.25 mg, twice a day. After a couple of weeks, based on the blood pressure response and/or Coreg side effects, the amount may be increased or decreased. Your healthcare provider may also add a diuretic (a "water pill") or another blood pressure medication if your blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled by Coreg alone.
The recommended starting Coreg dose for most people with congestive heart failure is 3.125 mg, twice a day. Based on the response and/or side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased until the optimal dose is determined. People respond to Coreg in different ways.
The recommended starting dose following a heart attack is 6.25 mg, twice a day. Based on the response and/or side effects, the Coreg dosage may be increased or decreased until the optimal dose is determined. People respond to medications in different ways.
