The recommended starting dose of Coreg following a heart attack is 6.25 mg, twice a day. Based on the response and/or side effects, the Corege dosage may be increased or decreased until the optimal dose is determined. People respond to medications, including Coreg, in different ways.
General Coreg Dosage Information
Considerations for people taking Coreg include the following:
Your Coreg dosage should be taken by mouth with a glass of water.
Coreg should be taken with food.
Do not break, chew, or crush the Coreg tablets.
Make sure to take Coreg at the same time each day to maintain even levels of medicine in the blood.
For Coreg to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Coreg will not work if you take in a different way than how your healthcare provider recommends.
You may notice an increase in lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting when Coreg is first started or when the dosage is changed. This usually improves after a couple of hours. Make sure to avoid driving or other activities that require mental concentration during this time.
If you do not take your Coreg as scheduled, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with normal dosing. Do not take a double dose.
You should not stop Coreg without first discussing it with your healthcare provider. Stopping Coreg abruptly increases the risk for serious side effects (see Coreg Precautions and Warnings).
If you are unsure about anything related to Coreg or your Coreg dosage, talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Also, as explained above, do not adjust your Coreg dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
