Generic Cardizem CD

There are a number of generic Cardizem CD products available on the market right now. These medicines are sold under the names Cartia XT, Dilt-CD, and diltiazem extended-release capsules. The FDA has given all generic Cardizem CD drugs an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to the brand-name version.

An Overview of Generic Cardizem CD

Cardizem CD® (diltiazem hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) or chest pain (known medically as angina). It is part of a group of medications called calcium channel blockers
 
Cardizem CD was first manufactured by Biovail Pharmaceuticals. However, the patent has since expired and generic Cardizem CD is now available.
 

Strengths of Generic Cardizem CD

Generic Cardizem CD capsules are available in the following strengths:
 
 
  • Diltiazem extended-release 120 mg capsules
  • Diltiazem extended-release 180 mg capsules
  • Diltiazem extended-release 240 mg capsules
  • Diltiazem extended-release 300 mg capsules.
     
Generic manufacturers can choose to use the standard generic name or to create their own name. Two generic manufacturers have chosen to create their own names. These products include:
 
  • Cartia XT 120 mg capsules
  • Cartia XT 180 mg capsules
  • Cartia XT 240 mg capsules
  • Cartia XT 300 mg capsules
     
  • Dilt-CD 120 mg capsules
  • Dilt-CD 180 mg capsules
  • Dilt-CD 240 mg capsules
  • Dilt-CD 300 mg capsules.
     
Generic Cardizem CD 360 mg capsules are not available at this time.
