People who have chest pain (angina), high blood pressure, and certain types of irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias) may benefit from using Calan® (verapamil hydrochloride). The prescription medication works by relaxing the blood vessels to improve blood flow. Most people tolerate Calan well; and even when side effects occur, they are usually minor and can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Some side effects of Calan include nausea, headaches, and dizziness. Calan comes in the form of a tablet, and it is usually taken three or four times daily.
